I did it!

I'm pretty proud of myself today. I managed to compete the half marathon yesterday.

I was running in the Great Scottish Run event in Glasgow. Last year I ran the 10K and this year I was trying to complete the half marathon (which is 13.1 miles or 21K). I knew that it would be a real challenge for me (I had only done three practice runs, the longest of which was 10 miles) and I wasn't sure if I would make it.

The weather was fantastic. Too good in fact. It was 24C which is too hot to run. I stopped three times - but only for a few seconds (once to do the toilet, the other times to drink some water). I actually finished quite strongly - in spite of the fact that the last couple of miles were agony. I thought that the finish line would never come. It took me 2.29/30 which is what I predicted. Given the intense heat, I think that that's a reasonable time.

It's a really fabulous event. It's well organised and great fun. All sorts of people participate - from professional runners (the winner did it in 63 minutes) to Batman & Robin. So I had a great day and collected a lot of money for charity.

My legs are a bit sore today but I'm chuffed that I managed it.
